What Are the Filters in My European Automobile?

Your European automobile is equipped with filters that keep the engine and systems running efficiently. These filters need to be changed on a regular basis. The best resource to determine when the filters need to be changed is your owner’s manual. This being said, we will give the general recommendations below along with the filters that are found in your European automobile.

Air

Your European beauty has an air filter in the engine to purify the air before it is burned in the combustion chamber. This filter needs to be changed every 12,000 miles. For some drivers, the filter needs to be changed annually because they don’t put 12,000 miles on their European automobiles in one year. Without a clean air filter, you will have engine performance problems.

Cabin

Most European automobiles are equipped with cabin filters, but some aren’t. Check your owner’s manual to see if you have a cabin air filter in your European vehicle. If you do, the recommendation for changing it may be every 30,000 miles. In some cases, depending on the filter, it needs to be changed sooner than that. A clean cabin air filter keeps the air fresh in the passenger cabin.

Fuel

Your European automobile has a fuel filter in the fuel system to clean the fuel before it is burned in the combustion chamber. In fact, the fuel runs through the filter twice to make sure that all of the dirt and sediment have been removed. The fuel filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. A clogged fuel filter can make it impossible for your European automobile to run.

Oil

Part of an oil change is replacing the old oil filter with a new one. As such, depending on the motor oil type in your engine, your oil filter should be changed every 3,000 miles to 5,000 miles. A clogged oil filter can prevent the flow of oil through the engine and damage it beyond repair. This is one reason why there is such an emphasis placed on getting your European automobile’s oil changed.

Finally, your European automobile may have a filter in the transmission to keep the transmission fluid clean. This filter is changed every 30,000 miles when the transmission fluid is changed. If you have not had this service done, or if you are overdue for any other filter change, give us a call to set up a service appointment for your European automobile.
