Get Your Car Winter-ready With These 3 Tips

How do you enjoy fall in Farmington, MI? We love taking in nature, roasting marshmallows, decorating pumpkins, and celebrating Halloween, of course! There is one other essential thing to do in the fall that we couldn’t neglect to mention: caring for your car! We are passionate about car care, so that’s why we love this time of year. October is, in fact, National Car Care Month! Right now is the perfect time to get in any work that needs to be done on our vehicles before winter snows blow in. Here are a few things to make sure you have covered:

Caring For Your Tires

Your tires will be in direct contact with wet and snowy roads, so you want to make sure you aren’t driving on dangerously subpar tires! Over time, the tread on our tires begins to wear down, and we end up with balding tires that do little to grip the road. If you notice that your tires are getting worn, it’s probably time to replace them.

Additionally, since we live in an area that gets lots of snow, putting winter tires on your vehicle will bring an additional measure of safety to your winter driving. They can increase all-over traction by as much as 25-50%! With all of the snow we receive here in Farmington, winter tires are a useful addition to have.

Use Cold Weather Washer Fluid

All-weather washing fluid may seem like it’s appropriate for the entire year (it’s called all-weather after all), but that’s not the case! In temps below the freezing point, your standard windshield wiping fluid can freeze in the reservoir. To prevent getting stuck without a way to get the dirt off of your windshield, put cold-weather windshield fluid in your car. They come in a range of freezing points, from -20 degrees Fahrenheit all the way down to -50.

Make Sure Your Brakes Are in Good Shape

If you’ve driven on snowy roads, you know how vital your brakes are to making a safe stop! If you have anything questionable happening with your brakes, be it squealing, grinding, or difficulty stopping, bring it in to us at Motor City European Repair. We can’t stress enough the importance of having your pads, rotors, and drums inspected.

Motor City European Repair is prepared to get you ready for the winter months! If you have any car care questions or would like to schedule an appointment, call us  today.
