Five Signs Your Fuel Injectors Are Causing Problems

You’d be surprised at how much clogged or leaking fuel injectors can create havoc in your vehicle’s engine. This is because the injectors either impede the fuel flow or inundate the combustion chamber with fuel. You will notice signs that your fuel injectors aren’t working as they should be, and Motor City European Repair is going to list those signs below.

Your Engine Keeps Misfiring

If the engine isn’t getting the correct balance of fuel and air in the combustion chamber, it will misfire. Misfiring means that you’ve got multiple detonations going on inside of the cylinders instead of just one. This makes your vehicle sputter as you drive along, especially at higher speeds when the engine needs even more fuel in the chamber to generate power.

Your Idle Is Also Rough

These multiple detonations can also make your engine’s idle rough. You will feel the engine stutter and your vehicle might even vibrate and shake while you are sitting at a stop. Unfortunately, your idle will only get worse as the fuel injectors become more clogged or their leak gets worse.

You’ll Get Poor Fuel Economy

As the fuel injectors leak excess fuel into the combustion chamber, the engine burns the extra fuel away. This reduces your fuel economy significantly, especially if the injectors are cracked and leaking badly. Even if they are clogged, you will still see a reduction in your vehicle’s gas mileage. This is because the engine is fuel-starved and working harder than it should be.

Your Tachometer Needle Will Bounce Around

You may have seen advertising pictures of clean and dirty fuel injectors. If you have, you’ve seen the fuel spray from the dirty injectors is more of a sputter. This can cause your vehicle’s tachometer needle to bounce around. The reason why is the engine RPMs increase when it gets spurts of fuel in it. An even spray of fuel keeps the RPMS steady.

You Can’t Start Your Car

Finally, if you end up experiencing any of the signs listed above yet you ignore them, your injectors may clog completely. When this happens, you will end up with only air in the cylinders. For engine combustion, you need air and fuel in the cylinders. If there is no fuel in the cylinders, there will be no combustion. As a consequence, you won’t be able to start your automobile. Call Motor City European Repair in Farmington, MI at the first sign of fuel-injector trouble. A professional cleaning will restore their function if they are clogged and replacing them will resolve the problems caused by leaking fuel injectors.
